First published in 1776, Akinari Ueda’s nine gothic Tales of Moonlight and Rain are Japan’s finest and most celebrated examples of the literature of the occult. They subtly merge the world of reason with the realm of the uncanny and exemplify the period’s fascination with the strange and the grotesque. They were also the inspiration for Mizoguchi Kenji’s brilliant 1953 film Ugetsu. “The Kibitsu Cauldron” tells a tale of spirit possession.spirit
Narrated by Asami Tamura who is also on the koto, with Amelia Lukas on flute, and Jane Hsu’s video art, this multi-sensory experience will begin your night right with creepiness and relaxation.

Fun at the Tank continues with improv band The Right Fucking Nows, light show and music by Brian Crimmins and Brendan Byrne to summon the dark lord, Halloween mask performances by Joe Osheroff n’ company, and terrifying comedy videos by City Hall!
